Farms are disappearing. Solar energy is rising. Could combining the two help save farmers and the planet? Introducing agrivoltaics.
Farming in America is harder than ever. Drought, extreme weather, rising costs, development pressures, and labor challenges are pushing farmers to their limits. Meanwhile, climate change —the very force behind many of these struggles — is driving a surge in demand for clean energy, transforming farmland into solar fields. Save the Farm, Save the Future follows Colorado farmers and ranchers — from sheep and cattle ranchers to peach growers and small organic farmers — as they explore agrivoltaics, a promising new approach that combines solar power and agriculture on the same land. Can this innovation help save farms while meeting society’s need for renewable energy?

A Halloween adventure under the solar panels!
Saturday, October 24 | 12–3 PM
Trade the parking lot for the solar farm this Halloween!
Join the Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center for a family-friendly afternoon of trick-or-treating under the solar panels at Jack’s Solar Garden.
Instead of visiting decorated car trunks, families will make their way through the solar garden, stopping at activity stations hosted by local organizations and community partners. Kids can collect candy and other goodies along the way while enjoying games, crafts, nature activities, and plenty of fall fun.
Come in costume, enjoy drinks and tasty bites from Latte’Da or bring your own picnic, and spend the afternoon celebrating Halloween in one of Colorado’s most unique settings!
Costumes are encouraged but not required, and activities will be family-friendly.
2026 Webinar Series
Graduate student researchers working with Dr. Alan Knapp and Dr. Matthew Sturchio at Colorado State University will share ongoing research from agrivoltaic sites exploring grassland restoration within solar arrays.
Learn how solar infrastructure can influence microclimates, vegetation, water availability, and the opportunities and challenges of co-locating solar with healthy grassland ecosystems.
